The CDA joins the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of Iannis Xenakis, a visionary creator of the second half of the 20th century.
Composer, architect, engineer, theorist, and multimedia artist, Xenakis built a singular musical and artistic work nourished by his passions for nature, mathematics, philosophy, and computers. This arts-sciences evening invites you to immerse yourself in the universe of the artist-researcher whose legacy is still being discovered.
The evening will open with an augmented performance of Xenakis’ four pieces for solo piano by pianist and musicologist Pavlos Antoniadis, accompanied by interactive visual creations by Aurélien Duval and Jean-François Jégo. This creation is part of the Habiter (avec) Xenakis project led by the artist-researcher Jean-François Jégo and the eminent specialist Makis Solomos.
Then, the Percussions de Strasbourg will invite the audience to experience the sound of Pléiades, a work that Iannis Xenakis dedicated to them and that has become a must in the field of percussion. From this close collaboration between the ensemble and the composer was born the
*Sixxen, a metal instrument created for this work, symbol of Xenakis’ inventiveness.
