Tower in Corsica

The Xenakis family spends all their summer vacations in Corsica. A tent and a kayak are enough to discover the wild beauty of the island, which looks like the native Greece of architect. In the middle of the 1960s, they bought a ruined sheepfold that Xenakis furnished in a Spartan style, to stay there in the summer. In 1996, as the family became larger, the architect-composer presented his wife with a design for a brand new house on the same lot. The walls of two independent floors on an elliptical plan are completely covered with “undulating” glass panels, which are connected to the outside by a staircase. At the top of the latter, a roof terrace offers day and night a clear view towards the sky and the sea. A local architect, Jacques Colonna d’Istria, was responsible for its construction.
